A failed managerial appointment can cost an organisation 5 to 10 times the manager’s annual compensation package.

As well as wasted investment in hiring, compensation and development, loss of productivity, damage to the organisation’s reputation, lost market opportunities, broken working relationships, loss of trust, damage to morale, and increased employee turnover. The outcome is also catastrophic for the newly appointed manager, whose confidence and career are often irreparably damaged.

The first 3 to 6 months in a new role are a time of both great opportunity and great vulnerability for a manager. The actions the manager takes during this period usually determine whether he or she will succeed or fail.

Exalto’s Taking Charge programme is designed specifically to support newly appointed managers during the crucial “make or break” first 3 to 6 months…

…to develop and implement successful transition plans and to transform beliefs, patterns of thinking and behaviours that could hold them back in their new roles.

The heart of the programme is a series of six 1-to-1 online coaching sessions with a qualified, accredited and experienced Exalto coach. These sessions are structured using proven coaching and leadership transition models to enable newly appointed managers to achieve the best results.

Online 3-way meetings between the newly appointed manager, his/her line manager and the coach are used to agree the exact scope and establish a shared vision of success at the start of the programme, to fine tune it at the half-way point, and to evaluate the outcome and agree how to maintain momentum into the future.

It may also be agreed that one or more tests of disposition should form part of the programme. Disposition testing can be very useful to enhance self-awareness and reveal traits that may be helping or blocking a coaching client in moving forward, and as a foundation for wider conversations in the coaching process.
